Artificial sports turf is a synthetic surface but basically it is carpet. The drainage holes on the back of the carpet are quite small in size and after a period of time can become blocked. The best thing for artificial sports turf is to get good use , foot fall is important as well as regular Drag Brushing.
The other things to consider are filtering of the sand to get as much of the contaminates out as possible. Moss and algae treatment’s may be necessary it can depend on drainage or the pitches surroundings. It is important to keep a close eye on your infill levels to give the feel to the surface and to support the pile of the carpet to prevent damage
Maintenance on a 3G / rubber crumb sports surface
Artificial grass 3G sports surfaces are great from a maintenance point of view but sometimes not so good for the sports facilities with all those bits of black rubber migrating away from the pitch.
Drag Brushing as much as possible starting off around the perimeter working the infill inwards and then evening out over the whole pitch de-compacting the infill. From time to time you might need to filter the infill to control the contaminates but moss and algae are not quite as much of a problem due to more movement in the pile on a 3G surface but it dose depend on drainage and the pitch’s surroundings. Once again the infill is to support the pile for feel and to prevent damage to the pile.
